Art

My heart and prayers go out to Oklahoma.
This is their state flower, Oklahoma Rose.

Oklahoma Rose

Supplies:
4 small canvas
4 shadow box canvas
printed picture of a flower
Mod Podge
paint brush
glue
white paint

I found a flower on the computer and printed it. Place the small canvases on the back of the printed paper and outline each canvas. Cut the four squares out. Turn the canvases over and place the printed picture on each canvas making sure they line up. Now paint one canvas at a time with Mod Podge and carefully place the picture on top. Let dry. Repeat for the next three canvases. Don't worry about wrinkles. It gives it an old look. Once dry apply another coat of Mod Podge on top of the print. Don't worry about seeing the brush strokes. It makes the picture look like an oil painting when dry.

Now, paint the shadow boxes with white paint. Let dry. Place the canvases on the shadowbox to make sure you have everything lined up. Then glue each canvas to the shadowbox. Let dry.

Jewelry - Vintage Pendant

This pendant was made with my Grandmother's jewelry. It was an earring that I made into a pendant.

Insecticide Spray

I am still making lotions and potions with all of the essential oils I bought. The insect repellent (blog post 7/1/13) worked for about fifteen minutes before the mosquitoes decided the spray tasted like a marinade and NOT a repellent! The deodorant (blog post 7/3/13) worked but I would not recommend traveling with it. It was a melted mess when I arrived at our destination. I will make more and use it only in my home. My next experiment is a homemade insecticide spray. I adapted this one so my husband can use it on his garden. Insecticide Spray   1/2 head of garlic (you do not need to peel them) 1/2 T of pepper flakes 1/2 cup water   Process in a blender until smooth then pout mixture through a sieve to remove chunks of garlic or pepper flakes. This is your "base."   Pour your base mixture into a spray bottle. Add 4 cups of water and 1 teaspoon of Jojoba oil. Screw on top and shake.
