Walnuts Sweet and Spicy

1 lb. walnuts or pecans
1/2 cup cup water
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/3 cup sesame seeds
1-1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Add walnuts or pecans, water and sugar into a saucepan and bring to a boil. Stirring constantly add the rest of ingredients and cook over medium heat until water is nearly evaporated (approx 4 mins). Lower the heat and continue stirring for 4 mins until nuts are brown.

Then pour nut mixture onto prepared cookie sheet and spread in a single layer. Bake for about 15-20 minutes until nuts are a golden brown. Let nuts cool completely before you break them up and put them in a bowl to serve. Enjoy!

Jewelry - Vintage Pendant

This pendant was made with my Grandmother's jewelry. It was an earring that I made into a pendant.

Insecticide Spray

I am still making lotions and potions with all of the essential oils I bought. The insect repellent (blog post 7/1/13) worked for about fifteen minutes before the mosquitoes decided the spray tasted like a marinade and NOT a repellent! The deodorant (blog post 7/3/13) worked but I would not recommend traveling with it. It was a melted mess when I arrived at our destination. I will make more and use it only in my home. My next experiment is a homemade insecticide spray. I adapted this one so my husband can use it on his garden. Insecticide Spray   1/2 head of garlic (you do not need to peel them) 1/2 T of pepper flakes 1/2 cup water   Process in a blender until smooth then pout mixture through a sieve to remove chunks of garlic or pepper flakes. This is your "base."   Pour your base mixture into a spray bottle. Add 4 cups of water and 1 teaspoon of Jojoba oil. Screw on top and shake.
